Childhood Memories
Recalled by the peonies by the gate at Ruth's. When I was a child we had this old double variety in the garden, inherited, along with a few other lovely flowering bulbs and two apple trees, from the previous owner who had lived there since the house was built in the 1930's. The peony is long gone but the apple trees continue to yield fruit to this day.
A long drive, the second half through rain, was extended by delays on the motorways diverting me to a more interesting but slower route into Birmingham. I arrived at 2pm, right on time for a visit from the project manager who will be involved with the access work at Ruth's. A helpful meeting, tomorrow we go to see his boss and sign off the first part of the plans. This dovetailed with a doctor's appointment, also helpful, after which I retired for a siesta, "Aaah, little sleep" as Manuel put it, only mine was longer than anticipated! As a consequence we ate rather late, having both had a snooze. I think we needed it.
Lots to do tomorrow. The work might even start next week.
