Cornwall Adventure Day 1 - Castle Drogo

Off on my travels again with a trip down to Cornwall for a long weekend before joining Don Bishop and the Time Line Events Team for a landscape workshop based around Helston.

I broke my journey on the way down at Castle Drogo, the last castle to built in the UK. It was designed as a family home by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1911, and completed in 1932. 

This amazing 20th century building had all the "mod cons" of the day, and was originally served by hydroelectric power produced using the force of the Teign Gorge, and introduced in 1927. The turbines have been restored and provide power to the castle today.

After walking round the house and gardens, from which my main image comes, I embarked on the 4 mile "Teign Gorge Classic Walk" which follows the Hunters Path high above the River Teign before heading down to the river and Fingle Bridge. The route back follows the Fishermans Path along the river pass the hydroelectic plant before heading back up to the castle. A couple of shots of the bridge and a cascade can be found as extras.
