Small cat, long grass

Wednesday was a busy day: I was supporting J all day, and she had an afternoon meeting on Zoom as well as her usual morning art talk, and wanted some help putting together ideas on her communication system for a group discussion the following day. These things occupied all the time available between the tasks which make up her routine care, so I didn't get outside or plan any photography. A chance moment at the window provided this view of the little cat, Millie, making her way back towards the house through the long grass and dandelion clocks: I was struck by her smallness among all that vegetation, though unfortunately she turned her head before I clicked the shutter. The garden is a mess. I could say that it's our contribution to No Mow May, but it would not really be true. We don't need to deny ourselves the convenience of a bit of cut grass, when we have so many wild areas in our two acres of garden and orchard; but unmown grass has become the norm at this stage in the year, when we are always trying to catch up with the preparation of vegetable beds, and when gardening hours are limited, lawn mowing only occasionally takes precedence over watering, weeding (inadequately) and generally looking after the plants we grow to eat.
