Day 11 (Bodrum, Turkey)
We arrived in Bodrum in the morning, and JR was inspired to get up early and go to the gym. This has not been the regular occurrence that she anticipated.
After breakfast JR wanted to go and sunbathe by the pool. But she then realised that there were shops quite close at hand that were calling her, and shuttle buses were laid on to take us to and from town. So off we went. What a nice wee village. I had a cup of strong, stewed Turkish tea (the first and last) while JR checked out the shops, which she very much enjoyed!
Back to the ship for a pizza lunch, then in the afternoon we went for a sail in a gulet. A gulet is a beautiful wooden sailing boat, this one was 37 years old, and it was splendid fun. A picnic was also laid on, with wine and cheese, cherries, strawberries, and little pastries. We discovered that it was much more fun up the front of the boat, and spent the whole time there. Nothing to do with getting away from the man who has been on several of our tour groups, and whose voice goes on and on and ON and ON!
It was a four hour trip, supposedly with optional swimming when we dropped anchor in a bay with the other gulets, but nobody was keen to jump in from our boat. It looked VERY difficult to actually get back on the boat from away down in the water.
Back on the ship, tired out (well, I was) so I persuaded JR on NOT going and changing for dinner (I've been pretty accommodating in this department so far) but to just go casual and cook our own fish and prawns on the hot rocks. Besides, it was such a lovely evening it was nice to sit outside and watch the sun going down.
We have a VERY action packed day tomorrow!
PS: Archie isn't missing us at all. He's having a great time with Jan and Maggie - check out the Extra!
