CHAINSAW ART

I've Blipped before about the quantity of ash trees being lost at Road America due to infestation by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive beetle.  Rather than cut them all down, a talented chainsaw artist and arborist is making carvings that display Wisconsin's native animals and also appropriate themes for a race track.

He's done barn owls, bear cubs, eagles, an antique gasoline pump and others.  Here you see him working on his newest creation right along the main highway at Entrance 6 to the race track.  He's just getting started and you can see how he has trimmed the branches and is placing a race significant carving at the apex of each remaining branch.
