"Live Better Electrically"
Out of nowhere, that GE ( General Electric) slogan came to mind today...how after the war, life for housewives was going to become so much better if they would just switch to electric appliances? Well, perhaps GE had a point...?
The afternoon today was spent trying to solve a problem with our light-with-a match gas stove...It died...the flame that is...not the stove. Perhaps the propane tank was empty? Not that we were willing to try and change the tanks, but in our rental instructions, it says that there is another one in the garage if we need it? But the garage is locked up tight. We sent a text to our host who lives 3 hours away; he in turn sent his daughter and her boyfriend to change the tank. Well, it seems it is not the tank. Perhaps there is a blockage in the pipe? A plumber may or may not come tomorrow - it is a National Holiday...and apparently no-one works on a National Holiday. Oh....drat.
No problem..the oven is electric! AND we have an electric coffee maker! Yay! ....Unfortunately we do not have an electric kettle..We have been boiling water in a saucepan on the gas flame to make tea..so I guess no tea for a while...? Methinks that perhaps GE may have been on the right track at the time... that life would actually be somewhat better with electrical appliances? (Except at our summer cottage back home when the power goes out frequently?)
Anyway, before the issue of the gas blew up..oops ..I didn't mean that literally, but geez, do you think it could have been a possibility? What I was going to say was that we spent the morning visiting our host's cleaning lady and her husband - such nice folks - and also grocery shopping - we did wonder why the store was so busy on a Wednesday..now we know..tomorrow is a holiday! Another one... the third one this month!
After that, I finally got my little sketchbook out and sat on the patio sketching - from a photo of Najac..until the issue of the stove arose. There was no opportunity after that to go out for a walk or a drive and take some photos, so today's blip is the only photo of the day...my little sketch that was interrupted and did not get painted!
