Pond Surprise

Spotted while walking round the ponds in Lightwater Country Park, a red-eared terrapin or slider. A non-UK native animal, probably purchased as a pet and then (illegally) released. This specimen is probably around its largest size of 30cm!

During my research I found advice on a US pets website:
Red-eared sliders are very popular aquatic turtles that require special lighting, an animal and plant based diet, and continuous cleaning and maintenance. 


Umm ... not sure this would apply to these ponds!!
