Copenhagen
We slept very well in our extremely comfortable bed and went downstairs for breakfast just before 8am. Later in the morning we headed out to look at the sights. Whilst it looked warm and sunny from inside, outside there was a bitterly cold wind. MrMacD wasn’t feeling 100% and by the time we got down to the King’s New Square he was feeling decidedly worse, with a streaming nose. We wandered through a couple of Danish design stores which had some wonderful, elegant items to admire, but we decided to go back to the hotel and get warm, as we need to be fit and healthy when we visit our friends in Sweden. After a hot chocolate to warm us up we went up to our room and MrMacD hopped into bed to try to sleep off his head cold. I didn’t fancy wandering around in the cold by myself, so eventually I succumbed and had a sleep as well. It’s such a shame, as we only had the two nights because we leave tomorrow for Sweden. After a good sleep, MrMacD felt somewhat better and we left the hotel for a restaurant just down the road from the hotel. We spotted it as we returned from our walk earlier in the day. It purported to be an authentic Danish restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. It was extremely popular, with people queueing up to get in. We ordered the three-course “favourites” menu (which is quite unusual for us). The starter was like a large vol au vent (actually two) filled with a creamy chicken mixture. The main Wiener Schnitzel was enormous, big enough for three people, or four at a push. We weren’t able to finish it, which seemed such a waste. The pudding was described as Old Fashioned Apple Stew. The stewed apple was puréed and mixed with crushed macaroons and topped with cream and jam. We managed to eat most of it. I’m actually looking forward to some nice home cooking when we get to Sweden tomorrow. We had a glass of wine back at the hotel then MrMacD had an early night in an effort to sleep off the head cold. I hope it works.
The main blip and the extra show various buildings and sights from the day.
