Damselfly

Today's the day ....................... for pond life

It was almost exactly four years ago that we filled up with water for the first time, our newly-constructed garden pond.

Since then it has given us much pleasure as water-loving  plants including yellow flags, irises, marsh marigolds and the like flourished - and the birds and other creatures drank water and had baths.  It very soon had water boatmen and squiggly insect larvae - but what we were really wanting to see were tadpoles - and eventually, frogs.

It has taken until now, but this year, the tadpoles have appeared, as if by magic - as well as lots of little water snails.  And today, oh joy of joys, this little creature.  I've looked it up in the books and I think it is a common blue damselfly, apparently as its name suggests, one of the most commonly found damselflies in the UK.  All I can say, is that there's nothing common about this little beauty - it's exquisitely crafted and very blue - but more to the point, it's ours!

If you want a closer look at one, you can see more here ....................
