On This Day In History
1965: The F.B.I. Laboratory weighs in on the lyrics of Louie, Louie

Quote Of The Day
"Because the lyrics of the song on the record, Q1, could not be definitely determined in the Laboratory examination, it could not be determined whether Q1 is an obscene record."
(F.B.I. investigation findings final report)

.... the inflatable dartboard!

How can you possibly feel glum when we live in such a wonderfully potty world; a world in which the F.B.I. spends fourteen months listening to a record on state of the art equipment, only to eventually conclude that because they can't understand a single word of what the singer is warbling about, then it cannot be obscene? Not only that, but not once during the entire investigation did anyone from the F.B.I. think to interview the singer.

Monty Python couldn't envisage a pottier scenario than that!

Louie, Louie (sorry, your two minutes and forty-five minutes is non-returnable.)

The final irony, the drummer admitted much later that he yelled an expletive while he was playing, and you can hear it, too.
