JEDDAH
It’s been difficult to choose a shot for our day in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
I joined the girls only tour to find out about the lives of Saudi women. Definitely into the highlight basket. Salma (I wanted to call her Thelma :)). We trekked through the old part of Jeddah with buildings around us in a very distressed state however it’s was pleasing to see many were being refurbished.
The blip is the minaret to Al-Shafei Mosque built in 1250. The door is the entrance. Salma did say the minaret is in original state although I feel the balustrade looks rather new. Regardless it was special to see.
We all then filed into a house where we were shown different forms of life for Saudi women including everyday dress, food, entertainment etc. They feel equal in their country which we all found surprising.
It was a very hot day and half the group decided to return to the ship while the rest of us were taken shopping by Salma. What fun us girls had - gold, scarves, coffee and the chocolate shop.
I’ll show more shots when home if you have time. Wifi not good.
