Allt Bholagair

Having tried to join the walk a day early yesterday, today was the day for the Uist Community Archaeology Group outing to the area around Loch Aineort, A colleague, SD, found this set of shielings a few years ago and has been keen to share them.
At 7km over rough ground, it was as far as my knee wanted to go. The shieling area in the image above was in a sheltered bowl and the group can be seen lounging around and about the shieling buildings.
Look carefully and I think there is a clear circular structure underlying the mound, probably an Iron Age wheelhouse or the like. With the rock here being pretty horrible to work, most ancient sites became a quarry for later constructions.
