A visit to Ascott House, Wing, Buckinghamshire

After a couple of hours graft on the much neglected Allotment this morning we ventured to visit this National Trust Property. Neither of us are big fans of the interiors of these properties but love the exteriors and of course the gardens!

This is the view from the rear of the house looking towards Mentmore, Edlesborough and Whipsnade (if you look hard enough you can make out the chalk lion of the Zoo).

I enjoyed the gardens very much, it was such a sunny day, if very windy, and colours of all the plants, especially the new leaves on the trees were superb! There are some interesting sculptures and a sundial made of yew with box hedges round it that read 'Light and Shade by turn but love always'.....I wouldn't have known that was what the spelt out had it not been written in the guide. There was a good mix of formal and natural areas and some if it had a real Park-like feeling.

For those of you who are interested the house is a half-timbered Jacobean farmhouse, transformed by the de Rothschilds towards the end of the 19th century and is still lived in today and only open on certain days throughout the year.............but to me it's all about the gardens!!
