Sunny Saturday

Pity I had to work today but started it well by meeting up with a friend and her dog and going for a run before work.
Work was busy, had to pick up 7 pregnant lobsters from Newquay. 4 of them were ready to go straight into the maturity tank where they hatch their eggs into the little larvae, which we then grow on and release back into the sea when they are 2 to 3 months old.
We take 5 eggs and a small part of the mothers pleopods. These are preserved in absolute alcohol and frozen.
A few years ago a student used our lobsters for his PhD. He was looking into finding a genetic tag so we can find lobsters again. They can't have normal tags attached as they periodically moult and would lose them, and the lobsters are too small to have internal tags put in. So when we can find the finances we will be able to process all our samples and then see where they go by sampling recaptured lobsters
