Olive groves

It’s overcast today which makes the colours stand out even more. The olive groves alternate between swathes of yellow buttercups and purple thistles.
The walk I had planned was disrupted by a busier road than I had expected and no obvious safe pedestrian route so I retraced my steps, discovered the Butterworth cafe and spent the afternoon reading Rory Stewart’s The Places in Between, an account of his walk across Afghanistan in 2002, just after the fall of the Taliban, and in the company, for part of the way, by a fearless, earless and tailless dog.
