Thermoregulation

An early morning arrival in Songea in southern Tanzania, although mercifully the flight was pushed back at the last minute to be less ‘crack of dawn’ than originally scheduled.

We had a series of useful government introductions and meetings with the funding organisation we are hosting in the landscape this week. It set the next few days up well and although it’ll be full on with lots of travel, the mood is positive and our proposal looks promising.

Songea has a fresher highland vibe with an altitude of around 1,000 metres. The highland vibe comes with necessary bodily adjustments to the temperature. In the evening I felt cold but when I checked it was 17 degrees not below 10 like I thought. My thermoregulatory system may need to buck its ideas up.

Despite the gelid climate, I enjoyed relaxing under the thick duvet as a pleasant novelty from the sweltering coast. That was once I’d chased away the shrieking cats from outside the back door.
