A Nandina sacred bamboo.
The shrub or mini tree is growing in our village garden only steps away from my home. I noticed it’s autumn beauty today and the berries growing. The sun was glistening on it at 10.10am. Despite its name it is not a bamboo.
The plant is a species of Nandina domestica and I discovered that it’s berries can be toxic to birds if food sources become scarce at the end of winter. I think our local birds have good food sources so hopefully they will avoid these berries.
