Livin' on the Fall Line

I hope the Doobie Brothers will forgive the play on words from their 1977 album Livin' on the Fault Line.

The part of New Jersey that I live in lies on the Fall Line which is a geographic region in eastern North America where the Piedmont Plateau ends and the Atlantic Coastal Plain begins. The terrain is marked by low, gently rolling hills that flatten as the elevation drops towards the ocean. Rivers and streams form waterfalls which were a source for power for the mills which grew up along the region in the 1700s and 1800s as America entered the Industrial Revolution.

Allentown, New Jersey is a very picturesque village in the New Jersey horse country. The Allentown Mill pictured here, which was originally built in 1706 as a grist mill, ceased operation as a mill in the 1950s and is today the site of shops and an historical point of interest.

Yes, my Brit friends, I understand that from your point of view something built in 1706 isn't historical when compared with sites on your side of the pond, but we Americans have our own sense of history :)
