I've Been To Church!
A wonderful morning walking in Corvedale, and I spent a bit of time exploring this interesting old church.
St James' Parish Church, in the tiny hamlet of Shipton.
It dates from the 11th century but has numerous later additions, including a fine half timbered bell tower, with three bells.
Inside there are numerous important historic plaques including one which refers to a number of children banished to New England, in the 17th century. On the Mayflower.
Of the four children from the More family who made the crossing in that famous ship, only one survived the first harsh winter.
A sad tale which was steeped in controversy, for which there is no time to amplify here.
A place of haunting beauty and many ghosts, and I will return for further in-depth investigation.
This afternoon I mowed all of our lawns and realised we seriously need another green bin. Plastic bags for carrying all the cuttings to the tip are not ideal.
Think I need a Turf Accountant.
