Disappointment

We had decided to stay in The Hague for two nights so we could spend one day being tourists and wandering around looking at all the sights.  Unfortunately, the weather had other ideas.  It rained all day and it was really miserable walking around in the rain.  We managed to visit the Peace Palace and then found Escher in Het Paleis, which MrMacD was keen to see.  It got us out of the rain, the exhibition about Escher and his mentor, Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita, was interesting and there was also information about what was once a royal palace.  There were also some rather interesting light fittings in the rooms.

We were thoroughly soaked by the rain, so after visiting the exhibition and having a coffee we walked back to our hotel, checked the weather forecast for tomorrow and decided to stay an extra day.  It might not be quite as wet tomorrow (80% chance of rain versus 100% today) but it wouldn’t make for very pleasant cycling and we’d like to have another chance to see the sights of The Hague.  We were able to sit in the lounge next to Reception, which is comfortable and where coffee is available.  We relaxed and caught up with emails and blips.

Then we went back to the same restaurant as last night, but had different dishes.  After we’d ordered the owner brought us a bruschetta with tomato and olive oil each, and he was so obliging as we chose two different pastas and he put half of each dish on each plate.  We had a Gnocchi Rossi (beetroot and potato pasta filled with mascarpone with Gorgonzola sauce and walnuts) and Ravioli Nero Di Seppia (filled with a mix of fish and a Gorgonzola and shrimp sauce).  Both dishes were delicious and when we went to pay we had a nice chat and the owner presented us with a shot of Limoncello each.  He did say he’d still be there tomorrow night!!  By the time we’d finished our meal and left the restaurant the rain had stopped.  Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

The main blip shows the Peace Palace, an interesting house, a flower shop, a building near our hotel and our supper tonight.  The extra shows views of the Escher in Het Paleis - as you can see, they rolled out the red carpet for us.
