Lady Blantyre's View

Friend Angela invited me out for a walk before the rain set in this morning and, as she hadn't seen the felling, we decided to follow the same route I took yesterday.

Lady Blantyre was the one time resident of the St Ives Estate.  A member of the Ferrand Family, she lived in the 'big house' with a retinue of servants.  At that time the estate was private and friends of the family would enjoy the scenic paths and water features unhindered by the locals kept outside the walls.  Apparently, one of her favourite pursuits was to climb up to the rock at this high point and enjoy the view across the valley whilst reading her book.

Over the years, Lady Blantyre's view has been obscured as the woodland grew in stature.  Now, with the felling, it has been opened up again.

Ironically, I have just re read my journal on the entry above and eight years ago we were hoping the clearance of the rhododendrons would have done the trick.......
