Along the roadside

I think it’s been a better day today. Inevitably, the morning’s still my worst time, but it’s a gorgeous day, and I feel well enough to embark on a longer drive - cushions well-placed to make the journey comfortable.

We set off down the Conwy valley, planning our usual route into Eryri, but despite the sunshine here, the mountains are disappearing into cloud and we head east along the A5 instead.

Soon we’re in a landscape of gentle rolling hills, quite different from the ruggedness of Eryri - and it’s a delightful change. Fields of oilseed rape are few and far between round here, so bands of gold are rare treasures; I find one up a bank beside the road, next to a field of grazing sheep where a few recalcitrant lambs have strayed.

Around almost every corner there’s a view, each different from the last, the strangest being the view across Llyn Brenig where wind turbines tower over humbug striped hills. It’s here we stop for lunch, discovering to our surprise that there’s now an osprey lookout here - though none are sighted while we’re there.

Then there are the flower-strewn meadow verges, carpeted with bluebells, dandelions, wild garlic and stitchwort - just so beautiful.

It’s a joyous day of photographic opportunities which leaves me with an eclectic mix - so just what to blip? Having sadly neglected wild flowers so far this year, I decide to go for the meadow verge of bluebells and stitchworth. There’s a less dreamy alternative in extras  …. and I’ve also added two collages from the day.

Thank you for the kindness shown to yesterday’s little blue tit - all very much appreciated.
