Diana Hunting

Another day at Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse.

The flow of visitors through the house is steady and many are very interested in the collections of art and ceramics.

One bright young boy was taken with the subject of today’s Blipfoto.  It is a door handle and features the Greek Goddess, Diana holding her bow after releasing the arrow.

Her target is a stag which is the door handle on the other door of the room.

Unfortunately the arrow never hit the stag which is behind her and running away from her.

If Robert Lorimer’s plans had been realised the door handles would have been mounted on the correct doors.

The reason for this swap? Lorimer had planned that the door to the French drawing room would open to reveal the room interior rather than hide the interior.

Apparently Beatrice Sharp vetoed this idea and insisted that the door open to hide the interior.

The little boy thought this was a great shame that the stag escaped!
