Victor in engine exhaust heat haze
Victor XM715 is the Victor Tanker that last refuelled Vulcan XM607 on the first Black Buck Mission to bomb Stanley Airfield in April 1982. She left herself short of fuel to get back to Ascension but was, luckily, met on the way back by another tanker which refuelled her.
Another tanker had to go out to rendezvous with XM607 as they pressed on with the attack despite knowing they did not have sufficient fuel to return to base.
The bravery shown by the Dam Busters and all of Bomber Command during the war lived on in these crews.
Bob Tuxford and some of the other original crew members of that mission still man XM715 for it's fast taxy runs at Bruntingthorpe.
Today it was Cold War Jets Day and I make no excuse for posting a photograph of the Victor, as I did last year. Despite the other terrific aircraft doing fast taxy runs I just love the Victor!
Try GOING LARGE, it makes it a better picture.
