Express Yourself

The final day of our Mackintosh Tour started at the Glasgow School of Art. Due to the preparation for the Degree Show we could not get access to the interior spaces. We had a guided tour of the exterior, along with an interpretation of the new Steven Holl building. The tour finished with a visit to the Furniture Gallery and the shop.

As a bonus I took the group up to Park Circus, an area situated on top of Woodlands Hill, in Glasgow's West End and was part of a planned development created by Charles Wilson in the 1850s. The layout is reminiscent of the Georgian new town in Edinburgh.

We then headed down to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and before lunch I took the group round the Mackintosh and Glasgow Style gallery. This is the largest display in the city of the Glasgow Style's wide range of media and techniques. After lunch the group had some free time to explore Kelvingrove. I liked this viewpoint looking across the main gallery towards the hanging faces, which are framed by the central archway. The heads are a playful homage to the Victorian sculpture galleries.

The tour finished with a visit to the Willow Tea Rooms for tea and scones. It has been a busy three days, but I am sure everybody had a good time.

Time to relax this evening.
