The Edge of the Wold

Spot the dog

Our local paper, the Westmorland Gazette, has a competition each week called Spot the Dog. A photo of a collie herding sheep has been airbrushed (or in the digital age, Photoshopped) to remove the dog. The challenge is to find where the dog's nose is. In this photo there is a collie who has not been airbrushed out. He is lurking under the beeches waiting for his Gravy Bone reward for staying still while I took the photo.

This is surely one of my favourite places on Arnside Knott. I keep returning to it, and it has been blipped several times in different seasons. Oddly, my favourite photo from here was one that I didn't blip, it was taken in Autumn with a touch of mist.

It's one of Gus's favourite places too, as he is guaranteed a Gravy Bone or two if he leaps up onto and sits on the huge root plate of the beech.

We spent the afternoon trying vainly to rescue the allotment from the vegetation that has overwhelmed it since last year. It was a bit like sliding down the long snake all the way back to the Start.
