Broken Britain
Off to Glasgow this afternoon to sort out an ongoing niggle with the kitchen in the flat. Once I'd done my best, I popped on over to Queen's Park to see if there were ducklings (result: 2 families, one of 4 or 5 ducklings and another one of 7). My pictures of them weren't great, they are pretty fast swimmers! But this is what really caught my eye - for the first time certainly since I moved there in September 2005 I saw a nest in the big pond (which is exposed and doesn't have anything to support it - the little pond has the islands and big trees and reed banks etc where the birds usually nest), which is unusual enough, but looking closely I saw that this beer bottle had got well and truly caught up in it - isn't that sad? Mama coot didn't seem at all bothered by it, but I was! The little pond seemed quite stagnant and had a lot of litter in it too - I wish the council would do something about clearing it out.
After saying hello to the birds I popped into see friends who live nearby and we had icecream in Shawlands. What a lovely way to spend the afternoon!
