A damp old day, just what wasn’t needed for the Coronation. I managed to watch most of it on iPlayer between trains, using catch up to get through some of the singing. Pity the poor people lining the route and all the servicemen and women on parade and anyone participating in a street party.

The weather severely curtailed the fly past to just helicopters and the Red Arrows. The Queen’s coronation was similarly affected by bad weather as was George’s before her.

The railway was pretty busy considering the circumstances. Plenty of coronation memorabilia in the carriages and plenty of cream teas being consumed. Trains came and went as per the timetable and there were no hitches to disrupt the trains until the very end when some impromptu shunting at Rolvenden delayed the end of my shift by almost half an hour.

Not much of a blip to mark the occasion, but there it is. The Class 33 diesel electric is back on the railway for the season. It attracted a photographer at the station who, amongst other locations, stood shoulder high in a field of oilseed. And I saw a deer crossing the track too. No cuckoos yet. Usually hear them by now.
