How Have the Mighty Fallen

It's a bit obscure, but the tree on the left has blown over at some point.  That grey mass is the root ball, and the curving line could well be part of the root system too.

We were slightly protected from the cold north wind in the forest, but it was still cold so we didn't hang about long.
