Sessile Oak

The flight from Glasgow to Stansted went to plan and we had an interesting companion from Australia to talk to. We are exchanging homes with a couple from Buckhust Hill, near Epping forest, the journey from the airport to here easy considering it was a Sunday morning. (And excellent instructions). The weather this evening is hot and sunny and the walk to the woods only a couple of minutes away. We strolled around a lake easily spotting Carolina Duck, moorhen, mallard with ducklings and a golden eye. They all appeared to be comfortable with people walking around the lake.

This Sessile oak with its interesting trunk caught the camera's eye. Apparently it grows a long stalk on the leaves and almost no stalk on the acorn. (Whereas English oak has no stalk on the leaf and a long stalk on the acorn). Common in the South east and central England.
