Flood channel

The fields between where I live and South Hinksey village regularly flood, that’s part of their purpose to absorb the water coming down the Thames catchment. This is - appropriately - where there are plans to build a flood relief channel, it’s controversial though as it is hugely expensive, will destroy a huge amount of meadowland and close off this area for the 5 years of construction and reduce access in the long term. It is estimated it will protect 54 properties from flooding - all downstream.
