The Goose visits
We were walking along the river/railroad path and I heard something coming but not a locomotive. It was RGS Goose #5 making a run from Durango to Cascade Canyon where there is a Y for turning the train around. The Goose ran a bit behind the regular train.
This goose normally lives in Dolores CO. It has been totally restored by volunteers there and it runs on the DNGRR here and the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad in Charma NM. It got the name when it was built by the RGS to basically carry the mail because it sort of waddles when rolling along. There were 7 total Geese and each was different - and they are all still around and most still run. One of my favorites..
I have not ridden on the Goose as yet but there is certainly a draw. Maybe next time.
