Stand In
The Marean in Dunbar's Cromwell Harbour this afternoon. I went along to see the Reaper, a larger historic fishing boat which visited from Anstruther but it had sailed. Never mind, I was delighted to speak to the owner of this beauty, which 2 weeks ago sailed for the first time in it's current seaworthy condition. A quick Google brings up the same boat in various states of repair - try it yourself!.
More Marean.
This morning I was out on the water on my paddleboard again, and this time I spent a little time watching instruction videos on YouTube. The simple advice of how to stand up was great (one foot after the other, not both at once like a surf board) and I paddled against the wind for a mile before turning around and paddling back standing, with the wind behind me. Wonderful! And I only fell in twice :)
I can't claim to be fast, but achieving that on my second time out was great. Lots of muscles aching in places I didn't know I had muscles!
I didn't take a camera (doh!) and I missed the perfect blip. I was way off-shore and having a rest when a canoeist came along and stopped for a chat. As he paddled off, the Bass Rock was framing him and the image is seared in my memory, where it will have to remain. Ah well, next time.
And so the awful title - a stand-in boat and a standin' me.
Ouch.
