A Wonderful Canadian Birthday!!!
We arrived on Parker Island last night to visit Karen and Herb. As always we were greeted at the dock, where we tied up, and then headed for the house patio for some wine and a beautiful sunset. Then Karen (who insists that she doesn't COOK) had a yummy casserole and salad for us and we agreed to meet the next morning at 10 for some "arting".
Today (my birthday) started with a walk around the Parker Island property in the Gulf Islands of Canada...watching the
seagulls feast on an uncovered starfish at low tide, and an eagle who flew in, perched for a bit and then left.
At 10 we met for our day of art. I had wanted to show K a bit more about the "Gelli Press" and so we spent most of the day making collage paper on "deli paper" using acrylic paint. K came up with the idea of using string to mask off portions of the paper, and we agreed that we loved the results. Here is K's collection of paper. Here is Sherrie's collection.
Then we agreed that we must make a collage before we ended the day, so with our new collection of papers, we went to work making our collages.
Karen's Collage. Sherrie's Collage. It was fun to see the differences in papers and resulting collages...there were a few papers that we both agreed were outstanding, but we had no idea how we had gotten the results...isn't that always the way?
Then it was off to dinner on Galiano Island, via a quick ride over to Montague Harbor and then a drive across the island. Our destination was Galiano Oceanfront Inn and Spa, where we had an amazing birthday dinner. The grounds were beautiful, and the food was outstanding. We had salmon and a beautiful scallop appetizer and took lots of photos.
K also gave me a beautiful hand made necklace that an artist friend had made...a perfect present and a perfect day!
