The Second Try

Very, very cold. A couple of degrees below zero early in the morning even in here, Southern Finland. Some sun, but the wind straight from north.

I left my intention to go out at noon, instead called my mother. In the evening the wind seemed to weaken. I wasn't very much in the mood to go out, but ended up going to try if I could stay warm enough to go to the Vanhankaupunginlahti reserve again. I did, and could take a ride of almost two hours. Especially way back was a pleasure to ride in a beautiful evening sun.

By the reserve border in the pond I saw again an European wigeon (Mareca penelope) couple. Can't know if they were the same birds as last week when I saw them further away and had "a wrong" objective, Apr 28th. At least there wasn't any other of this species. So this is the second time I have ever seen this species, that occurs throughout the country, but more commonly in the north.

I made a good choice. Now I think I'll have a glass of beer.
