Frustration

I went to check the nest boxes in my allocated woodland this morning. In the area I usually see Pied Flycatchers, I could hear one sing, but couldn’t see it. Later, I thought I saw one emerging from a distant nest box but even though I stayed and waited I didn’t see it return.
I did see a couple of Red Deer stags and the woodland floor was carpeted with Bluebells, Wood Anemones, Stitchwort, and to my mind, one of the prettiest, the Violet.
