Turn your back on Mother Nature
When your nephew calls and says ‘I’m running tonight come and support me’. You can’t not.
I was just about to start mowing the grass but I grabbed my Bag and Si and ran to the car. And that was all the running I’d be doing
We headed initially for the allotment but as we drove we contemplated that the fastest ones were probably already there … so we headed into town and stopped at the graveyard comer
There were two Marshall’s there and a couple of ladies from the houses next door . We stood for a little while and the first fast fast runners came along. We all clapped and cheered and so started a Precedent
They came along pretty steadily after that and first Johnny and then about ten minutes later his dad and we were shouting and cheering them all on.
Then the gaps started. And the gaps got longer and longer and the people looked more and more exhausted
I so admire them. As I said to the ladies (one of whom was calling me by my name … I still haven’t worked out who she was) is have been lucky to get a quarter of the way along the beach … let along 6km which was the point we were poised.
I couldn’t bear the prospect of any runners coming along without having someone to cheer. So we stood for an hour until the last (I hope) runners had past
Johnny and his Dad were already home by the time we got home!
And then I finished the grass
