Christ Church Cathedral

Bobs theme this week is religion.  This building is the seat of the Anglican church in Newy.  It has a dominating presence on the hill overlooking the city and is a reassuring sight.  I say that because in 1989 Newy had an earthquake.  Not on the scale of those across the ditch, but enough to cause widespread damage.   I was in Sydney at the time and after watching news on the TV decided I should drive home to check on my house.  As I came down the hill I saw the cathedral lit up and thought - phew, everything is alright.  It wasn't of course  but it looked it and was reassuring.  The cathedral itself had major damage and you can read more about it here if you are interested.

So the ribbons that you can see are called Loud Field and are part of a larger exhibition called Loud Sky.  It is a reminder of all who are impacted by sexual abuse and also a sign of healing and hope.  The ribbons are the work of volunteers across the community and there is a similar display at the Catholic cathedral.  Unfortunately, sexual abuse has been rife in both the Anglican and Catholic churches in the area.

So for 59 who was unable to go inside the cathedral when last up in Newy, I have put some extras up.   I have been to many services in this Cathedral, funerals, opening of term and more recently, for the blessing of the animals.   Always a hoot, particularly when the chooks and donkeys come.

Oh and this is a 4 landscape image panorama stitched in PS.  LR was being difficult.

Thanks for hosting Bob
