As A Bird

The apartment we have hired in Broadstairs (very nice) are cliff top views, sloped access to the beach below and gulls.

On our arrival the sun was out and, circling over the cliff tops, the gulls sweep low over the road as they come in. Pure blue skies and white gulls - I had to get a shot. You wouldn't believe that I had to wrangle to pick the best shot - compositionally this is the worst (gull is too large, and only one) but has the clearest shot of the full bird; the others were two gulls passing, beautifully positioned but when cropped to the right frame I lost the sun/sky tone; and the best shot of two gulls wheeling round has the worst (blurred) capture of the birds even though it holds the best sense of space, freedom, movement and sky tone - the way the birds angle to soar around the thermals gives such a sense of flying, fresh air, mastery of the skies that it almost got posted anyhow.

Maybe this shot does have the best compromise. Like the full anyhow.
