Harwich - Day 1

Apart from an evening meal one time ages ago when we were staying a short distance away, we have never been to Harwich.  What we have missed!

Two night in a hotel on the Wharf and so much to see and do.  Harwich has its own container, ferry and passenger terminal, as well as the RNLI, Harbour Mastsers Buildings and Trinity House Offices for itself and Felixstowe.  The rivers Stour and Orwell flow past out to the sea and it is the only safe haven  between the Thames and the Humber.

Walking around  on our first afternoon, we began to unravel the history:
- Significant naval presence in both world wars
- One of the first landing places for the Kindertransport in 1939
- The birthplace of Captain Christopher Jones, Master of the Mayflower,
   that began its journey to Americal from Harwich
- Samuel Pepys was the MP for Harwich
