Out… with Suzi Ruffell
A night out with the book club gang!
We hit Liverpool’s wonderful Everyman Theatre mob-handed to see the fabulous comedian, Suzi Ruffell. I’ve been a big fan for ages but hadn’t seen her live before as this is the first time she’s ever gigged in Liverpool. Surely, it can’t be the last!
As well as being an admirer of her comedy I’m also a subscriber to ‘Like Minded Friends’ the long-running podcast she makes with her good friend and fellow comedian Tom Allen, and to her own ‘Out with Suzi Ruffell’ podcast, in which she chats with notable LGBTQIA+ individuals from the worlds of comedy, music, theatre, film, politics, sport, cuisine, broadcasting, journalism etc etc. Both podcasts feel like real community hubs and the emails and messages from listeners are often as interesting and entertaining as the ‘main’ chats.
A few of us loitered around after the show to say hi to Suzi and, in my case, to grab a picture or two whilst fangirling frantically!
A special shout-out too to Suzi’s pal, and former housemate, Jenny Bede, who provided a brilliant support set despite battling conjunctivitis.
Here’s an example of Suzi at work - don’t miss her unlikely dancing double act with Harry Hill at the end! https://youtu.be/ePYKKTJ-MaQ
Today’s tune is ‘Not Strong Enough’ from the brilliant debut album by boygenius https://youtu.be/bIX_ouNJsTs
