Farr and Strathnaver

It was so cold overnight that Lottie snuggled in beside me, and very cosy and toasty it was too! 

After breakfasting on what we hadn't managed to eat yesterday morning, we went to the Strathnaver museum in Bettyhill, the nearest village, 9 miles away. The museum has been renovated and modernised since Mike and I visited it and dogs are not allowed in so while S went in, Lottie and I had a look in the interesting annexe has been built to house larger items like a fishing boat and interesting old agricultural implements. This bit was dog friendly and was a very modern looking building, with lots of seating outside in the sun!

We also had a look look round the kirkyard. The museum is housed in the old Kirk, and amongst the gravestones is the beautifully carved Farr Stone. 
A cup of hot chocolate and a cake each at the café and then we walked through the sand dunes and along the really stunning golden beach. Hardy surfers and a couple of dog walkers but otherwise empty. It was perfect! We headed up the cliff track and walked out towards Farr Point. A bit steep and muddy in places, but well worth it!  It was a good walk and we stopped for a bit of a rest at the cairn on the top. As well as the incredible views, we saw a couple of donkeys in a field on the way down. Many, many years since either of us had seen one, so a lovely surprise. 

In the evening we drove to the Rosal clearance village on the other side of the River Naver from where we are staying. A lovely walk through forestry and mixed woodland then onto the upland village area where over 50 buildings had once stood. Just low stone shapes in the grass remain. It's a sobering place.

Just remembered - S and I saw a little lizard, sunbathing on the wooden bridge at Strathnaver museum! Too quick for a photo, but a happy memory to keep.

All three of us were very tired! S has always been a great walker and she's keeping us going!
