cafe etiquette

I met a friend today at our lovely Village Cafe. Amazingly it was empty when I arrived. Most unusual.
I sat on the end table, a couple came in and to my surprise sat at the next table. It is entirely up to a customer where they chose to sit but in an almost empty cafe, I would probably not chosen to sit very close to the only other customers!
No harm done, all very trivial in the grand scheme of things !!!!
