Danger
Wendy and I had seen photos from Huntley Meadows yesterday of the gorgeous little Hooded Merganser and her ducklings. What made one picture so very spectacular was that in the middle of the ducklings was one Wood Duck duckling, looking like it belonged there.
On our excursion out there this morning, we had no trouble finding the little family, but there was no Wood Duck so we can only hope that it found its way back to where it belonged and it wasn't taken by a predator. This image shows the imminent danger of a Snapping Turtle nearby (just above third duckling from the left).
This Mama had her nine little ones out for breakfast. Several times she tried to get them all up on a small log (see extras), but there always seemed to be one or two that couldn't get up there. Finally after on the third attempt, eight of them settled in for a nap and one snuggled in with Mama. (also in extra).
