Lunch is Served and Swallowed Whole!

There are several nests of these Black Redstarts (Phoenicurus ochruros) on our street and today was the first time I was able to observe an adult feeding a youngster with whole crickets (look large to see the back leg still outside the baby's beak). I had the perfect hide, inside the bathroom, kneeling on the loo lid for half an hour! Unfortunately these birds move so quickly that this shot and this one with the baby's mouth wide open were the only ones in reasonable focus. Are these really quite rare in Britain?

Thanks to everyone who shot yesterday's dramatic piece of the Dents du Midi into the spotlight, I was amazed.
