aging gracefully

Flowers have unique ways of aging. The first to go in this bouquet was the single rose. It was a lovely pink spiral that never fully opened and then one day just dropped its head. The next to age out was the sunflower, which simply dried out despite standing in a pot of water. Then the bold orange day lily shed its pollen and the waxy petals turned into flimsy, translucent tissue. Now this Alstroemeria has lost its youthful sheen, but it is still standing tall and proud.
