Purple Skies Over Scalloway
Another cold day, with winds from the north. There's been snow showers, thankfully not lying, but it has mostly been sunny.
A morning around the house, before setting off for a late shift in the airport. I was working with oil and gas flights this morning and afternoon, it was quiet, due to strikes on the rigs. The evening was on the check-in desk, and all flights on time. Walkies with Sammy, now warm by the peat fire, feet up an telly on.
As I don't smoke inside, I headed out for a cigarette at 0045hrs, before bed. I was surprised with a bright sky, looked up and the mirrie dancers (northern lights) were dancing across the night sky. This time it wasn't the usual green skies, it was a stunning purple, more vibrant with the long exposure. We don't often get purple lights, so I stood out for about 45 minutes watching. Even though I've watched them a million times since a bairn, they're always worth seeing again. Taken from my garden, Hawthorn Cottage, Houl Road, Scalloway.
