Great trip to the V&A, a place we’ve visited often and have never been disappointed. Today we wandered through jewellery, furniture, ceramics & glass, admiring much & learning more. We’ve seen 4000 year old glass, learned with dismay that a tiny fraction of the woodlands of England is open to the public (most are privately owned …. Why?) and marvelled at exquisite jewellery & ceramics. One intriguing exhibit caught my eye; Breathless, made from crushed redundant brass instruments (crushed under the accumulators of Tower Bridge). The exhibit is suspended in limbo, between two floors. Viewed from above, shining instruments, viewed from below, darkened cartoons of their former selves. An exhibit exploring contradictions and juxtapositions.

Afterwards we wandered down Kensington High Road, stopping at Harrods. We took out a mortgage to pay for a sandwich lunch & ate al fresco amongst the less wealthy residents of London where there was even more buying and selling, but not the sort of herbal products we normally buy.

And then back to Leyton, happy & full.

See extras of Breathless, etc.
