Houston - Day Two and Day Three
I’ve got out of kilter with dates because of the change in time zones, so am combining Day Two and Day Three into one blip.
Day Two
We got to sleep around midnight last night because of plumbing problems, which we had to wait for someone to come and fix. We slept until just after 10am the next morning. We had breakfast - toast and coffee - in the hotel restaurant, which was an interesting experience.
After breakfast we bought a day ticket for the Metro tram/light rail and set off to visit the Museum of Fine Arts. We were very impressed. The museum comprises three buildings and we managed to visit two of them. The collections were outstanding, with dozens of well-known artists displayed. It was definitely worth the entry fee.
When we entered the second building at the Museum of Fine Arts we noticed a large screen to the right and realised that people coming and going in front of it were making all sorts of weird shapes and movements, a bit like the mirrors that distort people’s shapes at funfairs. It was such fun, everyone was laughing and enjoying the experience.
We visited the Flying Saucer, where MrMacD had a beer and I had a glass of Chardonnay. It’s called the Flying Saucer because customers earn saucers depending on how many different types of beer they try. We didn’t fancy the food there, so returned to Cellar 7 for dinner, where the staff are very friendly and helpful.
We saw several party limousines, which are more like buses than limousines. The windows are blacked out so it’s impossible to see inside, which is probably just as well.
Day Three
We got to bed a bit late and slept until 8:30am. It was cold and wet as we went out for a walk to find somewhere for breakfast. The one inviting place we found was full so we returned to the hotel and managed to get a better breakfast than yesterday. We sat in our room for a while relaxing and reading. After looking on Google maps I discovered Phoenicia Specialty Foods near Discovery Green, so we decided to go for a walk and buy some fruit, which we managed to do, as well as a bag of crisps and some hummus for our supper. It was still very cold out, so after returning to the hotel we sat in the lobby “common room” and read, then went into the restaurant for a glass of wine. Back in our room we feasted on crisps, hummus, fruit and chocolate - a naughty but nice treat. Delicious!
I think there might be a Taylor Swift concert in Houston tonight. There are lots of young, and not so young, girls leaving the hotel flashing the flesh in very short, glittery “dresses”.
I am way, way behind responding to lovely comments and dipping into blippers’ journals. The WiFi here isn’t good and there isn’t a lot of time. I will do my best to catch up soon.
The main blip and extras are photos taken as we walked around the Downtown area.
