Bird on the Wire
P washed the top patio and I did some gardening but at 2:0 pm we decided to go down to Portland Bill as today is his only clear day off until Wednesday.
We were thrilled to hear and see a lark surging into the sky ( there’s a field there which they seem to prefer) . This little one was sitting on the fence so it was so much easier to photograph. Their song is joyous and they fly so high, almost up into the clouds .
Robert Macfarlane’s ‘Lost Words’ on the Lark -
‘ Liitle astronaut where have you gone and how is your song still torrenting on ?’
It’s tragic that they on the red list of birds .
We had a beautiful walk along the cliffs, the light the air the sea all perfect as well as a proper tea leaf tea at the cafe !!
The pink thrift was coming out too!
Edit: OOPS! on closer inspection I think this might be a rock pipit - the bird in extras is one of the larks we saw as you can just make out it’s little tuft on its head !
Oh and we had the first Government alarm warning beamed through to our phones at 3:0 pm - even though I was expecting it, it made me jump as we were travelling!
